Introduction

I serve as the director of the Clinical and Translational Research Core Laboratory (CTRL), a CAP/CLIA accredited laboratory within the Department of Pathology at the Medical College of Wisconsin. In this capacity, I play two primary roles. As a board-certified anatomical and molecular pathologist, I provide assistance, guidance, and interpretation related to the pathology, histology, immunohistochemistry, molecular cytogenetics (e.g., FISH and microarray) and molecular pathology (e.g., massively parallel sequencing) of tumor samples. In the CTRL, we have developed multiple NGS-based sequencing panels targeting variants in both DNA and RNA that are clinically validated and utilized for routine clinical testing. The CTRL supports IonTorrent and Illumina systems, as well as DAKO Autostainers, an Agilent-format microarray scanner, FISH/CISH microscopy, and an inventory of more than 100 antibodies for immunohistochemistry. I also provide technical resources, pathological interpretation, and consultation on experimental design utilizing human tissues for research at MCW. I have experience designing and validating targeted, custom DNA and RNA sequencing assays, interpreting sequencing data, tissue microarray design and construction, immunohistochemistry optimization and validation, in situ hybridization, digital slide scanning, and digital quantitative imaging for immunohistochemical analysis.
