Peer Review Conference
Daily peer review conference for surgical pathology is held around the Chairman’s multi-headed microscope and is conducted by the Chairman. This provides an opportunity for faculty and residents to review challenging or interesting surgical pathology cases. This serves both an educational and a quality assurance function for surgical pathology. Furthermore, the format, whereby attending staff bring cases for consultation with their peers, models one mode of lifelong learning and improvement. Residents are not passive observers of this meeting and are actively involved in the analysis of the cases. Review of interesting cases from surgical pathology slide exchange clubs and various quality assurance programs also takes place routinely during this session, affording an added opportunity for continued exposure to challenging and difficult cases.
