Annual Midwestern Conference: Update Course in Surgical Pathology

As part of the Department of Pathology’s dedication to educational excellence through regular offerings, and to fulfill its commitment to provide the community of physicians and trainees throughout Wisconsin and beyond the opportunity to advance knowledge while earning Continuing Medication Education (CME) Credit, the Department has offered “The Midwestern Conference: Update Course in Surgical Pathology” annually since 2008. This course is intended for surgical pathologists in community practice, as well as for trainees in pathology, and offers a broad overview of the most recent advances and discoveries in the field of surgical pathology. The course takes place over one weekend, typically in the month of September.

Approximately 20 hours of AMA accredited Category 1 CME Credit Hours are offered, as well as an opportunity to earn Self-Assessment Module (SAM) Credit. Numerous lecture topics are delivered, changing every half-hour or hour to ensure the audience remains interested and engaged. The conference faculty is comprised of MCW faculty, and features four to six guest presenters from various prestigious academic institutions and recognized as prominent pathologists. A slide seminar presented by MCW residents and fellows is also provided. The course is intended to be practical, informative and timely, and covers a broad range of subjects in diagnostic pathology. Active participation of the audience is encouraged through Q & A sessions, as well as the use of interactive polling devices. MCW Department of Pathology’s “Midwestern Conference: Update Course in Surgical Pathology” has consistently received high ratings from participants, and is well-attended. It continues to successfully attract a diverse audience of pathologists from all states, as well as several countries.
