Annual Midwestern Conference – Update Course in Surgical Pathology
As part of the department’s educational activities and to fulfill its commitment to provide the community of physicians in Southeastern Wisconsin and surrounding areas credits in continuing medical education in pathology, we have been offering an annual update course in surgical pathology, “The Midwestern Conference”, since 2008. The course is intended for surgical pathologists in community practice, as well as for trainees in pathology, and offers a broad overview of the most recent advances and discoveries in the field of surgical pathology. The course takes place over 3 days during one weekend in the month of September.
Approximately 20 hours of AMA accredited Category 1 CME credit hours are provided in each course. The Midwestern Conference also offers Self-Assessment Modules (SAMs). Four to six prominent pathologists from various prestigious academic institutions throughout the United States serve as the guest faculty, and the remainder of lectures is provided by MCW faculty members. The course is intended to be practical, informative and timely, and covers a broad range of subjects in diagnostic pathology. Active participation of the audience is encouraged through the use of remote access devices for anonymous feedback on the issues discussed. The course has enjoyed high ratings by the audience and is well-attended, and continues to successfully attract a diverse audience of pathologists from over 35 states and several countries abroad.
