Continuing Medical Education
The Department of Pathology is heavily involved in continuing medical education activities for its faculty and for all community physicians who wish to participate in our programs through a variety of educational activities. The department organizes a monthly Pathology Grand Rounds session which includes a mixture of lectures by members of our own faculty as well as distinguished visiting professors from other academic institutions throughout the country and from reputable centers abroad. The department also counts with various visiting professors throughout the year who partake of their knowledge with our staff by providing lectures and slide seminars. In addition, the department offers a daily Peer Review Conference at an 18-headed scope which serves as a working and teaching conference for the faculty and house staff, where the interesting or problem cases of the day are reviewed and discussed.
The department also offers an annual 3-day continuing medical education program for community pathologists in the State of Wisconsin and surrounding states, “The Midwestern Conference”, which provides an average of 19 AMA accredited CME hours to participants. The conference is held at a hotel in downtown Milwaukee and counts with the attendance yearly of more than 100 pathologists from the community and from various academic medical centers. The department also sponsors several international meetings for pathologists in various countries outside of the United States, in particular through collaboration with the Arkadi M. Rywlin International Pathology Slide Seminar Club and various other organizations abroad.
Another way in which the department contributes to continuing medical education is through participation by its various faculty members in national and international meetings and update courses, including the National Meeting of the College of American Pathologists, the National Meeting of the American Society of Clinical Pathology, the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology National Meeting, the International Academy of Pathology International Meeting, the European Society of Pathology Meeting, the Latin American Society of Pathology Meeting, the International Society of Dermatopathology Meeting, and various national and local societies both abroad and in the United States.
